We have 4 national languages. Parliament debates could be held in one of these four languages:

  • German (spoken by approximately 64% of the population)
  • French (circa 19%)
  • Italian (circa 8%)
  • Romansh (circa 2%)
  • Rest: other languages

English is also spoken as business language by 15% of the working population.

Every Swiss people can speak at least one of the mentioned national languages. Many of them also speak 2 or 3 languages. But sometimes English is utilized to communicate between the French and German speaking Swiss people.
